Abstract

In Anglosphere countries commonly understood as the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia national identity can be outlined with two distinct models: “melting pot” and multiculturalism. While the “melting pot” model promotes the assimilation of immigrants into dominant culture, multiculturalism emphasizes the preservation and recognition of diverse cultural backgrounds within social cohesion. This article reviews not only how these two approaches have influenced national identity across Anglosphere countries but also investigates their underlying theories and policy effects. By examining recognized scholarly literature and using comparisons, this study highlights the main advantages and possible constraints associated with each model.
