ENHANCING ACADEMIC INTEGRITY IN ELT: THE ROLE OF SUMMARY WRITING AND DIGITAL MULTIMODAL COMPOSING
Abstract
This article explores the relationship between plagiarism prevention and the development of summary writing skills in English Language Teaching (ELT), with a particular focus on the role of Digital Multimodal Composing (DMC). Drawing on existing literature, the study argues that effective summary writing promotes deeper engagement with source materials and reduces reliance on verbatim copying, thereby supporting academic integrity. The paper also examines the importance of citation practices, including integral and non-integral forms, in acknowledging sources appropriately. The article concludes that integrating summary writing instruction with DMC tasks can serve as an effective strategy for fostering ethical writing practices and developing students’ academic literacy in the digital era.
